Description of the tour

Tour itinerary: Kathmandu

Experience the Mani Rimdu Festival, a sacred celebration held at Tengboche, Thame, and Chiwong Monasteries in Solukhumbu, Nepal. Witness a series of events of empowerment and join in the public celebration that concludes the festival.
Lasting for 12 days, the festival concludes in a three-day public celebration. Sherpas come together to participate in this festival alongside the monastic community. During the festival, Lamas and Sherpa gather at the monastery for five days for the welfare of the world. Watch as demons are conquered and the virtuous are rewarded. See the monks wear elaborate masks and costumes and through a series of ritualistic Lama dances, dramatize the triumph of Buddhism over Bon. On the first day of the festival, watch as prayers are held. On the second day, see the colorful lama dancing, as they wear brocade gowns and wonderfully painted papier-mâché masks. On the last day, see some humorous dances and chanting prayers, drawing crowds of local people and foreign tourists. Itinerary Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu, trekking preparation and permit paper work day. Day 2: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,800m) - 25 to 30 minutes, trek to Phakding (2,640m) - 3 to 4 hours Day 3: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,430m) - 5 to 6 hours Day 4: Explore Day in Namche Bazaar for acclimatization visit Khumjung Village (3,790m) & Everest View Hotel (3,880m) - 2 to 3 Hours. Day 5: Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche (3,867m) - 5 to 6 hours Day 6: First day at Mani Rimdu festival at Tengboche Monastery. Day 7: Second day at the festival observation. Witness the Cham - mask dance Day 8: Third day at the festival.
